ASUS G73JW or Qosmio X505-Q896

Thread Starter
Hi guys need an opinion should I get an Asus G73JW or the Qosmio X505-Q896.

I plan to custom make the Asus if I get that one
Asus:
2 500GB hardrives 7200rpm
6x Blu-Ray Read-Write/8x Super Multi Combo Drive
8GB (4 SODIMMS) DDR3/1333 Memory
Everthing else is production specs which are found here
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=WzU7IKA6SWdBvaRd

Qosimio
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/...o?poid=488793#

Asus would be $1722
Qosmio would be $1600

would be used for gaming and college work

You would get more feedback if you listed the specs for each laptop.

I've never seen the Toshiba, but if that's the Asus that's modeled after the stealth fighter or whatever it's pretty sexy.

G73JW from http://www.xoticpc.com/ $1447.00

The G73JW has far superior cooling and extremely better driver support. You will be able to OC your GPU w/o issue, and Asus will keep your drivers up to date wayyyyy better than Toshiba.

Along with those two benefits comes additional RAM and hard drive space, G73JW-XR1 how ever doesn't come with the Asus bag and mouse.

And good choice on GPU an OC'ed GTX 460m will perform better than a gts 450 (desktop).

Overall however I would say look hard at sager, they will be in the same price range, but be much easier to upgrade and have much better cooling.

I own a G73 and man the cooling is no joke. They designed this thing perfectly. I actually boxed up my notebook cooler I used to use on my Alienware. It is simply not needed for a G73.

While the MR 5870 is more powerful, I personally can't recommend the MSI units over an Asus or Sager. That being said MSI still make great units. The performance difference between the two is 3~15 FPS in either direction depending on the game, for the most part though RED wins. At the end of the day though if you can play it on high w/ the MR 5870 you can play it on high with the 460m and vice versa. You also have to keep in mind that the 460m's and 470m's are still very young compared to the MR 5870 and there have already been significant improvements w/ drivers and there are more to come.

When all is said and done I would rather give up a few FPS to buy a product I have complete confidence in with a large, active, and young modding community. Than a product that I am 75% confident in, I can't say much about the modding community on this guy though.

Each unit has it's ups and downs either way you go. ATM the MR5870 is for the most part better than the 460m that may or may not change with more mature drivers.
