Im in the same position as you buddy, some guys here at OC recommended me to stay with my trusty Q9450 and not go ahead with a upgrade. Depends what you use you system with but for agming theres not much difference. I thank the guys well enough for there efforts telling me not to upgrade. Money well saved to be honest.

But... its up to you.

Hope you make the right choice

Indeeed lol, acording to your bio we almost got the same computer, same LCD screen. Except for the 460gtx =-p.

yeap, but havent you though that maybe selling your cpu/ddr2 you can get the money to get back the I5-720 plus the memory ? For example, Mine OCZ Fatality i bough it 2 years ago at 37 Dollar on NEWEGG now you look at them and are around 100 dollar, and im pretty sure the DDR3 i point out here are about to do the same...

Keep your current setup and buy a new GPU.

Trust me I'm in the same boat. I've weighed everything out and my q6600 will be fine for games for another few years still. Now what I will update before a whole new mobo/cpu/ram setup I will upgrade my GPU's before then.

Also, you're cpu will not be a bottleneck if you have sli 580's even (If you're overclocked past 3ghz or so). So my vote is instead, to get a new gpu either a gtx470 or better, and use your other card for physx.

OP, wait for sandy bridge.. get an i5 from the new models....
with an usb 3.0 mobo with the new sockets...

or at least wait for the new benches, because they promise to be awesome...

anyways, current cpus might go down in price too if you wish to stick with those

Put the money into a graphics card and sound. Your set-up is still very good. Games are just starting to be optimized for quad-core. Even with a good dual core processor, ur still at the top of the game. DDR3 RAM won't net you benefits over DDR2 either, unless are running audio or video apps (Logic, Cubase, Vegas, etc.).

Monitor is great isnt it? My SLi'd 470's work great at 1920 x 1200, crysis warhead 99% GPU usage looks fantastic! If its gaming your into mate, i say i have no, i mean NO problems whatso ever with this chip. No lag and with SLi i got bells and whistles too.

I found out that i wasnt stable with my current setup with RAM / CPU OC'd (1066 & 3.5GHz) and am trying to get it stable, but for the gains ive got with the OC im atleast with a i7 atm. I find it great

Just a heads up, you won't be able to push more then 450fsb on that motherboard, as I have the same issues with mine. The 780i is a great board but lacks the support for high FSB.

It's expected January, IIRC

Don't bother with 1156. You'll be happier.
