ipod music recovery after formatting

Thread Starter
So I wasn't sure where to post this but I think this applies since it's about a hard drive.

I was attempting to get someone's music off their ipod which wasn't working and then do a restore and put it back on. Around 3 in the morning for some reason that is unknown to me now I formatted it (I think it was because it kept shutting off and I needed to get it to stay on, now it stays on but I have way more problems haha). Now I am attempting to get the files off of it. I used R Studio and after 1.5 days, it got about half way done and stopped the scan, I have no idea why. Anyway, now when I try to recover the files it recovers them but they are all 0 bytes. I've used R studio in the past without any issues but for some reason it's not working with the ipod. Which, btw, is an early gen ipod video.

So that leads me to the question, has anyone had experience with this? do you know of any programs I could use to get the music off or should I just restore the ipod and forget about the music because there's no way to get it off?

Not an Apple guy but I'm fairly certain that if you formatted the device, you cannot pull data from it.

You may have some luck pulling the drive, connecting it to another system (if this is possible, not sure what interface an iPod drive uses) and running Recuva or a similar utility against the drive but I have no idea if any data that was recovered would be usable.
