You have to be willing to do the 1-70 stretch. That's pretty much the most boring bit of gameplay ever. If you have some experience with WoW, you can do it in a week, if you keep on playing, but as a new player you'll probably take... A month? Less, probably. After this it's just a matter of opinion, but except if you find a good group of players to level with, there's a good chance you'll strand on the wastes of 45-50 and 65-70.

Now, this probably isn't as bad now with the new expansion, and new players and such, but it's still gonna be a pain in the bum.

When you hit 85 though, it's more a matter of opinion. Raiding, PVP, dungeoning, whatever. You'll probably only find out what you like exactly when you get there.

I'd say, play for two months. Try to put some time into it every day, so you can go through the levels with relative ease, and find people to play with.

EDIT: Also, in general, WoW is only a good game for you if you can put the time required into it. I'm not talking 5 hours a day or something, but it does need a certain time investment.

EDIT2: To the guy a few posts above, I don't play WoW anymore, for about 1.5 years already after having played for 4-5 years. It's a good game, but I grew out of it. I still respect it for what it is and was, but I just didn't enjoy playing it anymore (and I couldn't put in the time investment realistically without sacrificing other things).

I am sure their are lot more stuff to do when you hit level 85.

Only mmo game I ever played in my life was guild war which was long time ago. I have not touch that game in long time. I am in to first person shooting type games mostly. one of my friend is hard core wow player he told me that I would have to spend lot of time in to the game in the end. so what you guy think is Wow worth getting after
Just get it. It's worth it - Cataclysm changed a lot, the atmosphere is nice

It can be good fun if you have friends to play with, or get into a guild with good friendly people and get to know them, you'll pretty much always have something to do. I never like leveling all that much, but it did get much much better with the release of cata, especially all the revamped old content, it is much more bearable. The actual fun to be had with the game though is endgame, doing dungeons and raids, working on professions to make bank. Somebody here said the game is too easy, but that is not the case. It can be easy for you if you want it to be, but if you want it to be hard you and you have the skill, you can join a really good guild and do the really hard raiding content (I don't want to hear anyone here say the game is too easy unless you have cleared all hard mode raiding content, i mean really). Some say it's hard to justify the cost, but if you think about it, if you can pay 15 bucks a month to play one game and therefore eliminate the necessity of buying 1 or 2 new games a month because you're bored of your current ones, it kinda works out. The only time it ever really gets boring is at the very end of each expansion it seems, just because you know that whatever gear you're getting is soon going to be blown out of the water by the new gear you get from leveling.

I agree with everyones posts about sucking you in. I'm a casual player, I liked just wandering around enjoying the sights and some of the quest stories was entertaining. When I reached 80, my guild mates and friends were telling me to do end runs, I was like meh, but then I tried it and saw some of the players were elitists and had their dps (and yours) down to a science.."Oh, your rotation should be X-Y-Z, where you get X dps, being you don't and your gear sux, your a huntard, L2P"

IMHO It's a OK game, I think that the quality of players have went down but that is just my opinion..It has some pretty good moments as long as to stay away from trade chat.

Get it, if you decide it's not for you you can stop, like has been said before, no need for the expansions, you can get those if you feel you need them.

That's stupid logic. If the quests don't matter, then killing people in CSS doesn't matter. Nothing really matters, so that's a moot point.

You don't have to play for an obscene amount of time every day. There are obsessed people associated with every game and WoW is no exception. Correlation =/= causation.

I haven't played in years, but I'll still say it's worth playing if you're playing the trial and like it, especially if you have friends that play it or are willing to join a guild with the addition of some playtime responsibility that may come with that if you're serious about it and want to really achieve. That's not to say you can't do it on your own, as long as you're decently good and can be a contributing member of raid groups/etc.

If the graphics bother you enough that you're thinking of not playing it because of them, your priorities seem a bit messed up to me.

Yeah, indeed. In the end, everything is pointless. Games even more so. If you find relaxation in doing quests or raiding with friends, how is that worth any less than killing others in CS:S with friends? I don't mind people saying WoW is useless, but don't say it and then say that any other game is so much better in those aspects.

It's all about the small pleasures.

this is how i look at it:

-if you don't have a gf/wife or aren't interested in having one, wow is for you
-if you don't have an outside life or aren't interested in having one, wow is for you
-if you live at home with your parents, or in a basement, wow is for you

wow requires an insane amount of time to really get into the game and costs $15/month to play. personally, i recommend putting that time into something else.

Define "insane". I knew hardcore raiders back in the day who played 10 hours a week. Tops. They raided two-three times a week but didn't do much more. If you look at any interview with the highend guilds, you'll see that almost all the members have a successful job and don't play for much more than just raiding. The only times they border into the insane is when a new expansion comes out, or on the night of a new raid. But that's one week per year, and one night per 3-4 months. Your average student pulls more all nighters than that to study.
