How to create a mirror image?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm getting three western digital caviar blue 500gb drives for christmas, and will be setting them up as RAID0 totalling up to 4 drives in total.

What I want to do is create an image of my drive as it stands now, copy it to a 1TB external drive, and copy the image back onto my raid drives so that I won't have to reinstall windows.

Is this possible?

Also, what increases in speed will I get by running 4 caviar blues in raid0?

Thanks in advance
-Jason

By image, do you mean like a ISO?(sorry, thats how im thinking you saying )

and RAID0 will ALWAYS increase you speed, but since your HD's are Caviar Blue it'll still work, but the Blue versions are ones with less performance, but ether way, your speed will increase

and keep in mind if you use RAID0, and one of the hard drives dies, you'll lose your data

Speed, but less protection.(i think thats how it goes)

Yes, but I will have a backup saved on a 1TB drive, so im good on security.

And I mean a bootable ISO or something.

Also, I know blues are slower then blacks, but I can get blues for $32 canadian at memory express. And thats not on sale.

I thought this thread might have something to do with photoshop. I'm disappointed.

Cant help you with the raid part but I can help you with the clone.

I just did the same thing from a 500GB WD Blue to 1TB Black. You can get the cloning software for free from WD at their site.

http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...19&wdc_lang=en

It is supper easy to use. Pick the driver you are going from and going to in the menue. It will restart you computer then go to what looks like a DOS screen and clone the drive.

I will post my HDTune benches, the 1TB Black is not much faster than my 500GB Blue.

You could use windows Backup and Restore or this:
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
but imaging it back needed an OS on another drive but windows Backup and Restore can do it off a bootable CD.

You can use Clonezilla to make a exact bit level copy of your drive (Select the option that uses dd)
