i7 950 running hot on Silver arrow

Thread Starter
Hi,
I'm completly new to overclocking, I got my PC today from the shore that I ordered it from.
Specs:
GPU:5870
CPU: i7 950 @ 3.8ghz
M/B: ASUS P6X58D-E
PSU: Corsair HX850
CASE: HAF 922
RAM: 6GB Corsair Dominator GT running 1866Mhz
Cooling GPU: VF3000A
Cooling CPU: TR Silver Arrow
thermal paste: Artic Cooling mx-2

The shore that I bought it from Overclocked my CPU(i7 950) to 3.8Ghz,
In Prime95, running for 5min, my CPU gets to 80C

That seems a bit hot for that cooler.

what Can I do? I'm completely new to overclocking though.

also,
Is this the right place to post this?

you might want to redo the thermal paste and do it again.

why didnt you build your own?

check your vcore, they probably left it on Auto

CPU ratio: x21.0
DRAM freq: 1814Mhz
Dram bus voltage: 1.65
CPU voltage: 1.416
BCLK speed:180Mhz
BCLK freq: 181Mhz
PCIE: 100

thats all I can see in BIOS, rest is auto, where can I find core voltage or did I just give it?
soz real noob here
1.416 is most likely way too high for a 3.8 overclock 0.0..also not utilizing the x23 multi on a 950?

1.4v is very high for a 3.8 GHz overclock.

It only takes 1.260v for my 3.8GHz OC.

Also, check the QPI/DRAM voltage to see that it's not overvolted like crazy.

Dram bus voltage: 1.65V, i think it's sitting on it's maximum

fail, these guys did a dirty overclock.. is that what u call it?

the shop recommended -+2000Mhz RAM for my build to get the best out of the i7 , are they right?

seems they left QPI/DRAM on auto, alot of the stuff under the "Please key numbers directly" sign in BIOS, was left on Auto.

what should I do know?

no u will see little to no gains in performance from 1600 to 2000 what really counts is the timings

JESUS!

over 1.4Vcore for not even a 4Ghz overclock?

Turn it down to 1.3Vcore and put the multilayer to 23.
