Unable to run 3 displays from a 6950. - Page 2

Hi, the only way to run 3 monitors is via 2x DVI, (or 1x HDMI,1xDVI), and a ACTIVE DISPLAYPORT to DVI (or hdmi), adapter.

You cannot run 3x DVI, or 2x DVI and a HDMI.

1920x1200 resolution, you need an ACTIVE DisplayPort adapter. 1080p and below is fine on passive adapters.

And no, you CANNOT "extend" the desktop across 3 monitors with one card. You CAN use Eyefinity though, to make them all one big display (using said adapters).

You can extend the display across three displays without Eyefinity. That is because the DisplayPort has its own lane. Nvidia cards don't do this because of the lack of DisplayPort. I've tested it on my 5770 and it worked just fine.

Yeah, I'm using DVI / DVI / DP, CCC sees all three but is only allowing me to have 2 active. If I go to Create Group, I only get the option of a 2x1 or a 1x2 setup, there is no option for a triple monitor group.

I have a feeling this may be my problem.

That's all Eyefinity is; it's just a name for their multiple-monitor solution. And yeah, try an active adapter.

I missed the x1200 part in the OP. Good catch.

The interesting thing is though, on a similar adapter sold by Overclockers, viewable here, they are selling an active adapter for the same price, is this the one I need? It says it supports up to 1920x1200, so my monitors appear to be compatible.

I bought a passive display port and had to return it for an "active" display port adapter via Hdmi, dvi, dvi (via active display port adapter) Only way I was able to get eyefinity to work. Works great now.

Just as an update and somewhat of a conclusion. I bought the XFX Mini Display Port Kit on Boxing Day, it arrived today, plugged in the Active adapter and it works. Thanks for your help. smile.gif
