Maybe I just need a new setup altogether at this point.

I'm gonna try and squeeze some more speed out of it but every time I cranked up the FSB any more it bluescreened.
Did you raise voltages?
Also, what kind of cooler do you have on that 7900 card? when was the last tiem you cleaned it? Are you stress testing it? What are your temperatures?
Stress test with Furmark/Kombustor/ or ATI tool
Temperature monitors can be CPUID Hwmonitor.

I looked into it but I kept getting confused.

I'm at 5-5-5-12 right now, and from what I gather, higher is lower?

Edit: Stock cooler on the 7900. It's all clean though. I've never stress tested it, but it's at 60C with the overclock I just did on it. I went until the dots were all over my screen then backed off and it seems stable now.

That is correct. But lower your SPEEDS. If you're set to DDR2-800, lower it to 667 or 533. When you increase your FSB, you're increasing memory speeds too. So to counter this, you lower the speeds on the memory so you can go higher on the FSB.

If you want to COMPLETELY rule memory out, lower them to DDR2-400 or 1:1 (can also be called 200MHz). The lowest setting possible would be 1:1.

This setting would allow you up to 400MHz FSB before RAM becomes a problem again (assuming DDR2-800 sticks).

The 7900gs was a decent overclocker but it depends on the cooler. In the past I remember reading volt-mods that gave the gpu more juice and it could go higher, but I doubt you want to go that route.

In regards to the CPU I will reply in the other thread on what to do.

Sometimes there is a lot of traffic on these forums and sometimes there isn't. You just have to be patient. Remember that it is Christmas time and people are busy with other things. Heck I am still shopping lol.

As for GPU, I would upgrade. You don't need to go big since the CPU will already limit you. a nvidia 9800GT/250GTS/ or ATI 5770 would be a significant upgrade and you can get them cheap. I would go with a 9800GT or 250GTS and when you upgrade in the future use it as a physx card. I just picked up a 9800GT a few days ago for $40 on craigslist equivalent to run an SLI setup to last me a bit longer.

Cheers,
Liquid

Since you are a adult, you should really buy a whole new rig. it will not cost thousands of dollars for a decent rig, your talking 1000USD max for something half decent!

Or, if your looking for a temporary performance boost, a 9800gt, GTS250, 5670, etc will do you awesome

If you need any help overclocking that thing in real time, you can feel free to shoot me an IM if you want. I have pretty much everything, and the same screenname is here. Steam is my preferred messenger though. I will admit, I'm not the greatest with Intel's, but I successfully got my dad's Q6600 up to 4.5GHz on a suicide run, and 4.0GHz stable .
