Laptop for music production

Thread Starter
Hi, haven't posted here in ages, but now i'm back because i have to buy a new laptop (my toshiba died recently).
I'm a DJ and producer and i'm currently starting a home-studio.
I've been looking around on the shops and the brands that seem to offer what i seek are HP and Toshiba.
I was looking to get a i5 or the lower-grade i7's but now i saw that there are new i5's shipping in a few weeks.
This pc needs to be powerfull as i use software that needs some some cpu/ram/HD juicy.
4GB are a must, and the possibility to expand to to 8GB in the future would also be nice.
These are the models that i'm considering for the moment:
HP i5
HP i7
Should i wait for the new ones?
I can't really afford anything more expensive than that because i also have to buy a new audio interface, new monitors, microphones , etc.
I would also like to know if there are laptop cases for this models (like the ones you can buy for macbooks, the colored see-through ones).
Any help is appreciated.

Do you intend to use this laptop for playing out live? If not, forget the laptop idea and get a desktop, much more "bang for your buck".

Even if you are planning to play out live, you need to be careful on sizes - a 17" laptop might be brilliant in the studio, but will be a nightmare in a club (most DJ booths are pretty tiny and cramped before you start bringing other gear into them). I'd suggest something no bigger than a 15" (smaller is better), then have an external monitor (say, 22") to plug into the studio so you can see the whole DAW at once.

Yes i'm going to use it outside my homestudio, i had already pre-configured a desktop but then i realized that mobility was necessary.
The Hp i mentioned have a 15.3 screen if i'm not mistaken.
And i'm already on the look out for a bigger screen to have at home, currently i have a 19" but i'm getting a 22" or 23" one.
