Ok, that's cool. We'll get it to work one way or another. Let's try this and see what happens:
  1. Right-click on the speaker icon in the Notification Area
  2. Choose "Recording devices"
  3. If the Microphone does not say "Default Device" underneath it, then right-click it and choose "Set as Default Device"
  4. After that, double-click it
  5. Once you're in the control panel that appears, switch to the Levels tab to make sure it's unmuted and up to at a decent level (somewhere around 50%, perhaps - I don't know really)
  6. When finished, click OK
  7. Click OK on the "Sound" window
  8. Test it again

If it still doesn't work after this, then I guess all I would have left to recommend is rebooting. But if rebooting doesn't make it work after all of this, then this could be out of my league.

imho, disconnect the front panel wiring from your sound card and plug straight into the sound card, you are going to get better performance this way....go to:

control panel > hardware and sound > sound > recording tab and make sure the input device is set to microphone

then make sure it's set to the same in the console launcher (same as the pictures two cables posted).

It is plugged straight into the sound card and I'm not getting a microphone input device at all.

try restarting your computer and go back to what I showed you and see if microphone 1 isn't there.
