Cant decide what Tv to get!

Thread Starter
Well im here again after looking all over the internet, and im still at square 1.

Basically i need a tv, which i will use for watching Blu-ray, Pc gaming, 360/PS3 Gaming, and be able to use it as my pc screen aswell.

Ive been floating around Plasma's but im just really concerned on buying one due to mixed reviews, ive been looking at the TXP2G20B.

Im looking ideally for the size to be 42" and above, budget is flexible but need to aim for around the £700 mark. Rooms is either mid lit or dark.

I have less than like 8 hours to find a suitable tv!

Thanks.

stay away from plasma if you are using it as a pc monitor at times. They have burn in issues. No matter what you get told, they still do it. I would look at lcd, or led. For your budget, probably lcd.

You'll want 120 hz. I'm a fan of Samsung tv's.

Any model numbers to look for?
What about LED/LCD Response times these days, 40ms seems to be pretty average with them, will i notice a difference?

Plasma are not as burn in prone as they were before. It's alot harder to get burn in now than it was 5-10 years ago and it's a nearly a non factor when purchasing a plasma. If you're going to use your PC with it alot I'd go LCD TV or a local dimmed LED TV.

EDIT: Since you're going to have multiple uses it would likely be better to use a plasma UNLESS you will have heavy PC use on it for PC use is the priority over all of the factors. Plasma will have a better picture, handles games perfectly, isn't as energy hog as they were years ago and honestly aren't that far off from plasmas energy efficiency as much as it might seem and and 46"+ are cheaper than most quality equivalent LCD and LCD-LED TVs.

Try to find the biggest possible monitor you can, that is still big enough to use as a TV, see if you can tolerate it... I say this because monitors at that size are definitely much, much better. It's mainly because they can go to really high resolutions, and if you get a good IPS one, it's much better picture quality and should still have the required video connections. I don't even know how much huge monitors cost, but if it's too high try to go for a Samsung LED TV, or a Sony Bravia. Panasonic Viera seem to be in the lead right now so try to get one of those.

I still recommend you going with a LCD. Even the newest Plasmas burn in much quicker than you would expect. Walk into any Best Buy and wander the Plasma TVs. Every logo is already burned into the TV. If you're using a PC ever, you will one day leave it running when you run to the bathroom upstairs (and then get distracted by something upstairs for a few hours). A couple of those and you have a burned in plasma.

Just off the top of my head, you could pick up a LN40C500, LN40C530, or LN40C550 most likely for under 700. They're 60Hz, but if your PC gaming is online, you'll want the better response of a 60Hz (120Hz tends to delay the frames a little while it generates the extra frames).
