1333MHz RAM and Overclocking

Hello,

I have 24GB of the RAM posted at the bottom. My question is if it is possible for me to overclock my i7 930 to 4.2GHz on my Rampage III Extreme with having this slower RAM. I have a watercooling loop so heat should not be a factor.

Vaughn

$305 doesn't seem like too bad a deal, though with generic 1333 8-8-8 memory with no heatsink and 6 DIMM's your overclock would definitely be held back. Why use/need so much RAM anyway?

I'm trying to make the computer a VPS and also use it for gaming. Figured I'd max it out for that price. Thanks for the help and advice!

Why the hell do you need 24GB of RAM for gaming?

and no heat sinks? that is going to be fun to overclock...

As I said previously, I am primarily using the machine as a VPS.

I bought some Thermaltake Memory blocks and will be cooling each module. They will be exclusively cooled by my BigWater 760i since I have now switched to a XSPC loop for my CPU.

Thanks for the input. rolleyes.gif

The Thermaltake Bigwater is a known to be a worthless setup, I know. For RAM, I think it should do just fine. I added a good rep to you btw because your previous post made me think about the weight of the RAM in those slots. I think I will build some type of arm that supports them a bit and helps keep stress off the components. Thanks for triggering my mind! smile.gif
