So how could it be what you're speculating?
coincidence ;

It could be a recent system infection (just before he shutdown the pc to clean it) so after the cleaning sure he'll notice the problem. also a mishandling to the hard drive could defect the system files (in case of incorrect shutdown).

there are plenty of ways to get the same problem, that's why I think this cleaning thing is only a coincidence and there is no problem with memory, graphic card and motherboard since games and other applications runs smoothly when no network nor internet is in use.

and until we have a confirmation from brain123, there is no way to know.

BTW, "mania_maniac" I like your post.

Thread Starter
It is not the cpu because when i load webpages or use the network the cpu usage stays at 1% to 2%.

I forgot to mention this, but after i cleaned the computer, i reinstalled the OS and also short stroked the hdd to 80gb instead of using the full 500gb of the drive. I installed the necessary drivers (mobo, graphics, sound, etc), but everything was acting odd (this is where the mouse lag issue first came up). I couldn't find the problem so i then reinstalled the OS once again, and instead, used the entire drive instead of short stroking it. Now all of the problems previously went away except for the mouse lag issue. could the short stroking actually have damaged my hdd or create problems?

If you don't hear any unusual sound from the hard disk, your system boots up quickly and the programs opens normally (not delayed) then don't worry about the hdd.

What type of mouse do you use, wired or wireless, USB or PS2?
