WinXP to USB

Thread Starter
I need to get XP on this work PC, sadly I ran out of CDs and it is too late to go get any now.

Already tried putting it on a USB with wintoflash but when I get to the installation screen it is trying to install it on the USB drive or ask me to convert it to NTFS.
Not sure why it isn't showing up the HDD.

Any tips to get this working?

There is another utility called WinSetupFromUSB that you could try.
As for your HDD not showing up, have you disabled ACHI? Remember, Windows XP doesn't support it at the installation.

I haven't touched the BIOS and it already had XP on it but that did come to my mind, problem is I do not see that option in the BIOS.
Kinda new to Gigabyte bios and I can not for the life of me find it.

Going to give that program a try, hopefully it works so I can go to sleep.

It should be under "Advanced Blah Blah" forgot the name. Don't feel like restarting my computer just to find out.

Just make sure your computer isn't running ACHI or when you go to install XP. It won't show your HDD's.

"Advanced Blah Blah" You sir are amazing!
I'll give it another look now, just seems odd for it to be into ACHI.

Now to play with that program.

Edit - Grr ISO does not work for that program on XP only for other OS. I had a few stripped XP folders hopefully I picked the untouched one cause I need almost everything it brings.

Ah. Yes. I encountered that problem too.
It upset me quite a bit. That's why I don't run a stripped down version.
I made a stripped down version of Win7 and able to burn it to USB via the RT7Lite program. Nice little functionality they built in. Don't know if nLite does that.

Little more complicated but got it working, shame I picked the wrong folder.
Now to dig around and look for the untouched ISO and extract it then put it on the USB with that program.

And here I thought I was going to sleep before 3am today....

Note to self buy more CDs so you can sleep on time.

Meh. USB > DVD.
Not to mention installs from USB are faster & usually is more readily available
