Should i go water for Sandy Bridge?

post #1 of 20

I'm contemplating ditching the H70 for a real water setup and putting the 2600K and a pair of 570's on water. What sort of rad am i going to need? Would a triple 120 do the job or would i need more cooling power?

Hey. I wouldnt count on going for a tripple rad only. If so U need to go res-pump-rad-cpu-gpu-res. But for a optimal cooling U should get the triple/quad for the cpu and a dobble/tripple for the gpus. Sounds much but there will be alot of heat.

I think a triple 120 and a single 120 would work good but if you want great temps then id go for a triple plus a double.

I'm Going water for SB. I've never done water cooling before but seeing as ill be an early adopter of an i7-2600k i thought i'd go all out with å real watercooling loop. I've ordered å tripple radiator, but i'll only be cooling the CPU at this stage.

I'm not really sure Sandy Bridge really needs a triple rad by itself. It's only 95w TDP if you use the IGP and 80w TDP if you don't. People have been hitting 4.8Ghz with a Mega Shadow. Double rad be able to handle it?

your gonna want at least a quad for a pair of 570's and an i7-2600k....
the 570's put out 219w(nvidia spec) of heat per card...
but it mostly depends on what rads and fan speeds you plan on using...
from looking at the chart you can see you would need at least a triple and 1800rpm fans just to disipate the heat that the components will generate...
plus we have to factor in what pump your going to use and the heat it puts into the loop... it's always better to overshoot with radiators i think... better to have more than not enough...

219w x 2 = 438w (stock core speed not including the mem if you go full block)
i7-2600k = 95w (stock core/voltage)
533w = total heat generated

chart from skinneelabs.

i'm sure the heat will increase dramatically once you start to turn up the voltage to oc

Awesome chart 808. Any reviews on the EK Coolstreams? Maybe two 240's paired together? Hate the look of the Quad's... They're so huge

Two EK 570 Blocks

Is the Heatkiller worth the extra 5 bucks over the Apogee XT?
