So I pulled the esc key out of my 6gv2

I accidentally hit my hand on the esc key on my 6gv2 while gaming. The esc key popped off. The MX black switch was revealed.. I could easily put the keycap back in. But, it's very loose. All of the other keys require quite a bit of force to pull out (I haven't pulled any of them out yet, just tried how much they can handle before they pop out. They can handle pretty much)... But this escape key, after putting it back in, requires almost no force to pull back out.. It has enough resistance to remain attached to the board if I (for example) hang it upside down. But if I pull the keycap, it's so loose...


Is it natural for keycaps to become loose once pulled off once or is it a build quality issue on my board? I didn't damage anything.. Everything looks perfectly intact...


Just want to know... It annoys me that the keycap is so loose, but it doesn't cause any problems. The key still works perfectly...


Is this the norm or did something else happen?

Unfortunately, it is not normal. It sounds like there was just enough damage done to the keycap to cause it to be this loose. I mean even after removing a keycap, it should still be just as tight of a fit as it was when it was first removed.

Agreed, I removed the Esc cap from my Blackwidow for fun, popped back on without issue :\\

TwoCables, since you know about mechanical keyboards quite well, could you put tape, sticky side on the switch so it fits more... snuggly [on the cap], for a lack of better words?

Oh well... Luckily it isn't a huge issue... It has enough resistance to stay there, even when pressing it... If I had to approximate, I would say that it requires about 110 grams of force to pull out...

But the thing is that I don't see anything broken. Everything LOOKS like it's perfectly normal.


Maybe the switch or the keycap just wore enough to allow the connection to loosen up. :c

What I meant was that it might have been damaged just enough so that even though it's not possible to see it, it's still damaged - but just ever so slightly resulting in a loose key cap. I mean, I can't think of another explanation for it becoming loose due to way that you accidentally popped it off.

Remove a keycap from another switch and try it on the Esc switch. That should let you know whether the keycaps is damaged, or the stem on the switch for it.

Cherry keycaps usually need a keypuller, or a well-placed flathead screwdriver to remove.

This was actually done to fit aluminum keycaps firmly on a board.
