ONE 23" 1920x1080 Monitor* HD 6970 CF vs GTX 570SLI

^Title.

I have one monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080 and my HD 4870 is still doing fine but I have to turn down AA for High textures on games like BFBC2 so it is time to upgrade. Now I have 850€ budget, and I think I won't be able to get more 'cause I got almost all of those as Christmas presents so no one will probably give me more ^^ And I'd like to know which one is better? I can't afford GTX 580 SLI so I'm going to buy neither HD 6970 CFX or GTX 570 SLI and I am going to overclock them with stock coolers probably so I'd like to know which one wins when OC'd and I will be using 'em for gaming:

BFBC2, Black Ops, CoD 4, StarCraft II, Metro 2033, some other games.

Oh and the cost for those are the same = 800€ here in Finland. Thanks for future replies!

If I was you I would save some money and just get one 580, 570, or 6970. With only one monitor there is no reason to have that much power. I get 140-170fps in SC2 maxed out.

But out of those two the 6970's would be better due to the more video ram.

But again, hate to harp on the point, but really what I would do is get a 580 and another 1080p monitor (same one, the 580 is more then capable of powering two 1080p screens) and then save the rest until you can pick up another 580 and monitor. Or if you want to do it quicker get a 570 or 6970 which again will power two 1080p monitors just fine.

By benchmarks ive read, the HD6970 cfx is better than GTX570 SLI. Pair of GTX580 is anyway only little better then pair of HD6970's.

Jouluja!

This.

There will be very little difference at that 1080p res with another card, it's a waste. For instance, look at these benches I ran comparing a stock 5970 and 470 in Mafia II.

If you look, the results at 1920 x 1080 were pretty much identical, now that's very little difference between a £200 card and a £500 card, no?

Now, take a look at the benches at 2560 x 1440, and you'll see the difference between then very obviously.

Now we see the differences at a higher res:

The settings were kept the same, just changes the res. Both cards at stock, and my 920 at stock. Game itself on a 500GB Caviar Black, if it matters.
To be honest, a single 570 or 6870/6970 will be more than enough. Anything more is a waste at that resoloution. Other than that, either add another monitor or get a bigger one (adding will be cheaper), then you can consider SLI/CFX options.

Oh, and Antsu, nice stolen Avatar, original.

570 is better than 6970 imo, as long as you keep to the 1920x1080 res.
if you can use your current budget to get a bigger screen, and can therefore play at higher native res, go for the 6970 since it edges out on the 570 in higher-than-1920.
but, as everyone said here, you really don't need 2 cards for your setup. if you REALLY wanna go xfire (for the cool factor), get 2 6850s, they oc like crazy (close to 100% scaling).

if you do decide on 570, i recommend evga for their excellent warranty and customer service, tho you should check their european warranty conditions (as with every other manuf. you decide to go with)

HD 6950's do more than just OC, you can flash them to HD 6970's.

Well I went with the HD 6950's Flashed, OC'd to 950/1450 and working fine! Haven't been able to test them in Crossfire but will tomorrow! Any game benchamarks you'd like to see? And if possible someone could post a their GTX 570 SLI results.

I have a 2nd gtx570 on the way, I'd be glad to post up some results once it arrives. Might be a week before I can though. Just recently ordered.

Why not vantage and 3dmark11 with both stock settings and overclocked? I probably won't oc past 820 or so, even though I can currently go to 865-875 or so. I don't want to push my limits with the vrm's.
