Minimum wattage for this build?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for a fairly quiet >80% efficiency PSU that can run the parts in my sig below (trying to sell the CP-850). I plan to OC the i7 to ~4ghz and maybe slightly OC the GPU if I get an aftermarket cooler. I also plan to get a new case like the Silverstone FT02 which has 3 huge fans to power. Some help please?

I'd recommend a quality 650W. It will be more than sufficient for that.

Out of curiosity, why are you selling the CP-850?

I actually purchased a P183 from another user because I got the CP-850 at a low price, but sadly realized too late that it can't fit the 140mm fans and Thermalright Silver Arrow I bought ahead of time. So now I also need to sell my CP-850

My suggestion to you is the Antec TruePower New TP-550.

I'm setting my eyes on the Seasonic X650. Bar none most silent PSU I've ever seen. Would it be able to handle dual GPU's (for example, dual 5870?)

The recommended wattage for that is 700 or over, but 650W will actually be enough, especially with a PSU as reliable as that Seasonic. If you don't feel comfortable going with less than 700, the XFX 750W is a great option, and it costs a little less than the X650.

Most quality 750W seem to have +12V@62A
But the Seasonic X650 is spec'd to have +12V@54A

What's the amperes required to power potentially dual 5870's, or even future generation cards?

If I remember correctly, for the 58XX Crossfire the requirement was around 45A. You'll be just fine with either of those. I'd personally choose the 750W (for price and headroom reasons).
