I DO plan on getting a new monitor, just not soon. Probably around the same time I upgrade my CPU/MB with Sandy Bridge or Bulldozer, which is going to be around July. The only issue I'm thinking I may run into is my current CPU being bottlenecked by the 6950. I'll probably have to OC a bit more to get the most out of it. Anyone have a 69xx card on a PII 955 or equivalent CPU have any issues with bottlenecking?
If you want the 6950, just save the extra money and eventually get a 6970. They're the same size, and the price to performance ration is MUCH better with the 6970.

You could just crossfire a pair of 6850's.

A PhII 955 will not be a bottleneck for a 6950 at all, no worries man

on your resolution 6870 should serve you well, if you plan on upgrading to 1080 i would recommend 6970/570

If you do plan on upgrading your display or perhaps adding a second for eyefinity et. al then a 6950 would just be in your budget.

There's a Gigabyte model on Newegg for $299 shipped plus an additional $20 rebate.
I agree with you that the 4890 is still "sufficient". But I have never been one to settle for "sufficient". Not saying I want the fastest thing out there, as it (GTX 580) is way over my budget, I just want a card that will fit MY needs. When I do get a new monitor, I'm thinking a 23" 1920x1080 will be my next upgrade. If I end up wanting bigger, I'll just connect to my 42" Samsung LED. Anyways, I have been more than happy with my XFX 4890 that I bought here I just think it's time for an upgrade.

If you're on a budget the HD 6870 will do great. If you've got more cash to spend you should be looking at the GTX 570

A 6950 will roughly double your performance. I went from a 4890 to a 6950 and its a huge difference.

Thanks Candy and Jz for clearing the bottleneck (or lack of a bottleneck) question up As far as the 6970/570 goes, they are still out of my budget at the current moment. If between now and mid January the prices come down, which I don't see happening, then I may just make the jump to one or the other. Also, I don't plan to Xfire/SLi. I can't say for sure which CPU/Mobo I will be going with since neither SB or BD are out yet. So, to clear things up on the monitor front, yes I will be upgrading to 1920x1080 when I do my other upgrades in July. 6950 is looking like the winner, but....... like someone mentioned, the GTX 560 will be out next month too.
