Gotta agree with this I always zero fill any hard drive I'm about to reinstall windows on and there is a noticeable difference other than the fresh OS feel.

well, can I zero-fill the C partition only when I want to reinstall Windows ??

I am sure this is only doable on the whole HDD capacity.

Zero-fill will fill the entire disk. It ignores partitions. The only way to do that is to have your other non-C partitions on a different drive.

Same, doing it as of this moment on my server build, so I can install everything again.

Well my engineering PhD says you didn't. As I said, it makes absolutely no difference to the disk what is written there before - the read & write heads are separate, and when writing the disk ignores what is there and just writes the new data directly. Streams of 0s, 1s or random data are all ignored and overwritten exactly the same way as the platter rotates.

The effect is all from the new OS feel - which can be considerable.
