Well.... I think your being totally unfair to steam.
First, steam delivers games cheaper than brick stores to begin with. Seems like every time I walk out disgusted to see games 10$ more than on steam, PLUS 9% tax where I live.. (I've heard some people pay up to 15% locally depending on where they live
Next, Yes it does suck to buy a game and then have it drop in price even more.
you buy on steam here is what you need to really evaluate.
A. how much do I want to pay for this game?
B. is it worth the price they have it on sale for now.
I have waited two or three months to buy bad company 2 because, i knew they were going to have it on sale and I wasn't in a rush to play it. I was rewarded by it costing 7$ roughly..
I bough left 4 dead one, then left 4 dead 2 both "on sale" for 20$ a piece.
I regret none of it.
I suppose what I do want to say is I am a frugal person I think in a lot of ways.. however, I tend to not regret my game purchases. I try to avoid piracy if a game is not good, I don't even pirate it. I want the company to get slapped in the face. "wow Our game was so bad it wasn't even pirated."
However, if a game is good and I decide to buy it then I am dropping any and all worries about finding it on sale later because, I believe the game is worth at least that much.
I got metro for 9$ and I am glad I did I was unhappy with it over all and feel its not a bad game.. but, I do feel like it is a 9$ "get it on steam sale game"
By contrast, I love left 4 dead 2 and I have paid for my copy. My ex girlfriends copy. My current girlfriends copy. A friend of my ex girlfriends copy and i think one or two more. I got them all on sale when possible but, I like the game and they all got at least 20 hours or more out of it so it was worth every penny even if I paid a different price every time I really don't mind doing so..
I got beat hazard as part of a 5$ sale and loved it and wouldn't mind having paid more for it..
My brother gave
me half life 2 and half life 2 episode one and I feel like I shoulda paid for it at some point in time its that good.
I mean I love saving money and being frugal but, I also believe that I vote with my wallet *EVERY* time I buy from steam.
I believe it shows that PC gaming is NOT dead and That companies WILL be rewarded for treating their customers well and giving fair prices...
I think every dollar I have "given" to steam has been worth it and hope steam will continue to offer games at reasonable and affordable prices with great sales.
Maybe sooner or later the gaming industry might catch on that I don't want to pay 50$ a game.
What I suppose I am trying to say is if I paid 40$ for metro I would be disappointed because, I don't believe its worth 40$. If it went on sale for 9$ the next day I wouldn't be disappointed I didn't get the sale price, I would be disappointed in the game itself for failing to live up to what I thought its value was.
If the game was worth what you paid for it, why think twice about it?
I mean buy graphics card today better one comes out tomorrow. This is the nature of our hobby. More you think about it more your going to drag your self down pointlessly.
After I built my rig I had no second thoughts I knew what I was doing and I got my moneys worth.. before long my rig will be worth much less than I paid..
