Best method of overclocking (Multiplier, FSB, or both?)

So I am very familiar with overclocking using the multipliers and voltage. I am currently running this overclock:

CPU: 3.7ghz (200x18.5) with 1.38v
CPU-NB: 2600mhz (200x13) with 1.2v
RAM: 1600mhz (1:4) cl 7-8-7-24 with 1.65v



I am wondering if I there would be any benefit to lowering the multiplier and using the FSB to overclock. From my understanding, this will increase my RAM speed, CPU-NB, and possibly video card due to the increased communication with the CPU. I also believe this may require more adjustments overall to avoid BSOD, since RAM may become unstable etc and thus require me to drop multipliers etc.

Any feedback about the benefits of these different methods or is overall clock speed all that matters?

Little bit of both for me.

3.7 is good for a c2, 3.8 would be about the peak without water (for most chips).

You should have the option of raising your ram and nb with multipliers alone, if you use fsb you'll have to change them because you can't input 3 new figures and except to figure out which is causing the bsod without pulling your hair out.

this...ballathefeared is the guru of amd overclocking. listen to him. mix it around. most setting like it with less muliplier and more fsb. hence better stablity.

Thanks for the feedback but I need more specifics. For example:

CPU: 3.70ghz (200x18.5)
CPU-NB: 2600mhz (200x13)
RAM: 1600 (200x4x2)

vs.

CPU: 3.72ghz (240x15.5)
CPU-NB: 2640mhz (240x11)
RAM: 1440mhz (240x3x2)


Supposing these two options are both stable, would they yield the same performance increase or is one better than the other?

What I would do-

Start off with your cpu and nb as close to stock as you can, while finding your max ram speed.

Once you figure out how far you can push your ram you'll pretty much know exactly what settings the other two need to be at to reach your best performance level.

Often I only use 210-225 fsb off the max 1066 (1600 for you) ram settings.

Once you figure out the max fsb you can do with your ram at 1600 to start, then just change your multi's on the cpu and nb to hit your 3.7 and 2.6 speeds. Adjust fsb as needed downward if you want/need.

Okay, I managed to find a stable overclock using fsb....

CPU: 3972mhz (237x16), 1.38 v
CPU-NB: 2607mhz (237x11), 1.20v
RAM: 1580mhz (237x3x2), 1.65v, cl 7-8-7-24
HT Link: 1896mhz (237x8)

Bumped my load temps to 52-54c, but otherwise stable in prime95 (20 mins blending)

everyone say's to raise the fsb and lower the multipliyer for better performance and stable clocks

I meant 3792mhz, or 3.8 essentially....

EDIT:

btw, this new overclock bumped me up from a 3DMark06 score of around 17500 to 19500
