what is the most reliable DL DVD burner these days?

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
I've had too many DVD burners get flaky on me and I just want one that is going to keep working until I die. Need to be able to burn DL DVD and SATA connector. What's the most reliable out there these days?

Back in the days of SCSI, i always depended on Plextors or Toshiba drives that lasted forever... nowadays I don't know what's best anymore. They all seem so cheap... but I'm so sick of the drives failing on me or frequently giving me bad burns with every brand of media I've tried. Seems the Lite-ON and LG stuff is total crap...

suggestions please??

Hi.

I have had good luck with both Asus and Samsung drives.

Incidentally (since you mentioned Plextor), I still have some discontinued Plextor slot drives (IDE ) that still are fully functional and running strong.

I've built 4 computers over the past year and I always use Lite-On drives. They are cheap, the front bezel looks great, fits my case perfectly, and they have never failed me. I have burned a LOT of DL DVD's with them as well.

Just thought I would throw that out there.

Have 2 of these, and no coasters or failed burns. Highly recommend it. I tend to steer clear of Lite-On and LG drives; too many coasters to consider either again.

I have this one --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135204

Works nice. I've burned a bunch of DL DVD's, no problems.

If you're getting bad discs try turning burn speed down to x8 for CDs or x4 for DVDs. It takes a little longer but is worth it for error free results.
