2xGTS570s +gt220, Overclocked to the max, can i dual PSU?

Thread Starter
I use dual PSUs right now, put everything peripheral on my earthwatts 500 watt including monitor, speakers, and all my gizomos. Well i am getting dual 570s GTS and the system will be oced to 5.2ghz, with videcarsd OCed as well, can I buy another PSU, like 700 watt just for the Videcards and just hook them up to the 8 pin plugs? would tha tinterfer with th Cards PCI-E power? or is that power already regulated seperately fromt eh PSU powering the mobo and cpu?

I want to make this cheap i really don't want to have to buy a 1200watt AX.

you don't need 1200w for that.

what CPU are you planning on getting?

somthing released in january. i can't talk about the CPU, just think of it as a i7900 series like a 980x.
i guess my real question is, can I power the video cards off a second PSU? just the video card, maybe put a SSD or HDD on it for load on 5v and 3.3v rails?

Or is it unsafe to do because the first PSU powers the mobo with supplies 75 watts to the videcards, i have to have the same PSu power the extra 12v connectors on the GPUs? I went to extreme PSu calculator it said my wattage is 905watts. I am looking to get a second XFX650 XXX which i was really happy with or a single HX1000. I really want to get the XFX 650w XXX, because I really don't have 220 bucks just for a PSU, I need to buy RAM as well.

This is a benching only rig.

i knwo hwo to get the PSUs started at the same time, i do a lot of electrical mods with my soldering Iron I have been since 2002, I have a whole secondary system powered by a PSU, I even modded my minitor to use 12v power LOL. I have the technical ability not to screw up the green on power, as i do it now with a relay.

you would be fine with a decent 850w PSU, wait on a couple other responses first though, I am not 100% on those more recent cards.

as a rule, a single PSU is ALWAYS better than two. the only time you should use two is if your power draw is clearly exceeding 1500w, which is rare even for quad sli gtx 480s.

Aside from what you asked, since I don't have the answer to that, I read here on OCN that with two GTX470s you needed at least a GTX260 as a physics card or else you were better off not using the third card for Physics. And truly, withtwo 570s do you think the 220 is necessary? I would be really interested in seeing some bench marks with and without the 220.

yea i will be only benching this rig, and if the 220 is a hinderance I will remove it no biggy.

I knwo using one is better than using two, this is a money issue though, as it is much cheaper to get a second PSU of the exact same make for 80 bucks than spend 220 bucks? But this is the only money i am spending on this system apart from RAM, and If I can save the money I can get another C300 for RAID.
