what's a decent price for gtx 570? - Page 3

Let's try a different route.

Power doesn't matter.

You're overclocking your card, which makes those figures null and void.

Let's look at it from a price vs performance standpoint, since you're using an AMD chip I'm sure you're familiar with that concept.

Lets just say a GTX 570 is 10% faster max OC vs a GTX 470 max OC (mileage may vary).

Currently GTX 470's are $220 - $250 and GTX 570's are about $360 to $380.

Now we'll go back to my first post, which directly answered the OP's question. How much is a "decent" price for a gtx 570... The answer is about $280, anything more than $280 and you're over paying.

That's it. End of this discussion.

GTX 570s are $350. Where are you pulling 360-380 from?

You're right, 470 is a better value. I still wouldn't buy one.

And I sure as hell didn't buy AMD because of "price vs performance". I bought it because I didn't have $1000 for an i7 mobo/cpu/ram combo at the time. If I could go back in time I would have saved my money.

The GTX 570 is a better deal than the GTX 470 right now. As far as noise goes, yes the GTX 570 is a lot better too. But honestly, when you're actually gaming a GTX 470 is decent in the sense that you won't hear it over the sound of your headphones (crappy Creative Fatal1ty). I have to say that my HD 5770 produces less noise when at 100% fan speed but even at 60% I can hear it over my headphones (the fan produces some high pitched whining noise).

With decent airflow in your case you have nothing to fear of when going with a GTX 470. Though if you're already thinking of spending that amount of cash the GTX 570 is a better deal. It overclocks a lot better, runs cooler, has better tesselation and AA performance and enhanced TMUs giving it better texture filling performance.

Here is where I'm getting $360.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-552-_-Product

$357.88

For a shown 4% gain in real life games..

vs a GTX 470 for $199 /w Mafia II

$159 + a game for 4% performance gain, and better HSF for quieter fan operation.

Yes, clearly the better buy is the gtx 570.

Holy heck Jean, first thing I noticed was you changed video cards again The second thing I noticed was your new cpu, how you liking that?

yes i really care about noise, extremely care, i do not use headphones, just speakers and if my rig is louder than 30db i'll probably have to burn it and throw it in the dumpster

Then you should look into water cooling as it provides hands down the best temp performance with the lowest noise ratio.

Yes, I know what you're getting at but in reality no stock cooler will meet that criterium. The GTX 570 will be more satisifactory than the GTX 470 though, but I can assure you neither of them will produce less than 30dB.

That being said, get the GTX 570
