E8500@3.8

Thread Starter
i achieved E8500@3.8 on stock heat sink setting cpu core V to 1.2 never passed 50 c

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2640/picture001ojr.jpg

i still have few question :

1_ is there any other important cpu stability tests i should make ?

2_ should i set anything else in the bios manually other than cpu fsb and cpu voltage ?

3_ why is cpu z showing 1.8 v while i have adjusted cpu V in bios to 1.2 ??

and a dual thanks .

1. run prime 95 for at least a few hours to find stability. i run it for at least 12 hours. this will test stability. link:
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/
2. you could try lowering the timings on the ram. the settings are normally under "Chipset Configuration"
3. look again at the pic. it reads 1.184, just below 1.2.

btw nice overclock with stock heatsink

btw prime95 is for gimps. just download the file(step 3) and run the program. when it asks if you are participating in the search, click no.

make sure you ditch the speedstep in bios, it will throw off your stability at random times

i have kingston value rams kvrd2n6 are you sure they are up for lowering timings ?
and if so what are the timing i should use ?

not sure i want to make the cpu at full freq 24/7 ill let it idle with speed step and
see what will become . its idling on 37c and i would prefere if i dont need to turn
off speedstep if possible coz in the summer it gets hot around here .

gonna try prime95 and post some results later

note: i know its running at 1.8 lol quite near 1.7 the stock voltage .
i was asking why its on 1.8 if i was to set it to 1.2v at bios ?
then why its not showing 1.2?

it is probably best to not mess with your ram.

once again look at the picture. the picture reads 1.18, easily confused with 1.8

voltage will vary slightly. if you need stability you could probably up the voltage more. rule of thumb is 15-25 percent overvolt for everyday use. you could probably up the chipset voltage as well if you wanted to up the fsb a little more, assuming your temps aren't too high.

well that prime95 is a tough challenge , it manged to reach 73c in about an hour of testing
i bet it can do that temp even at cpu stock speed . but then it kicked back to 65c

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/9184/picture002tln.jpg
http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/8388/picture003ss.jpg

its ok am happy its even lower than 1.2 then so close to stock voltage .
its stable enough and am satisfied with 400 fsb because it sets my fsb:Dram to 1:1
which is a good thing , plus i wont need to extra heat in the summer .
3dmark06 test went way up at 3.8 i couldnt ask for more really with stock fan .
thanks

i have been advised to set my pciE manually to 100 .

is that really necessary ? and is 100 a good value for it ?

i just got the ati card and it hasnt been very stable lately from driver issues so am worried of switching off from auto . devil-smiley-019.gif
