dns suffix not right

Thread Starter
i recently switched isp's from ygnition to clear, and everytime i type 'ipconfig' in the command prompt, it says my dns suffix is from ygnition.net even though im connected to clear. Ive already tried the /flushdns command but that didnt work. Every now and then my internet will basically stop letting me go to any website except facebook and netflix and i have no idea why. I can still ping websites and have skype conversations with my friend, I just cant visit any website except those two. Any suggestions?

Open your network connections(start > run > ncpa.cpl), right click on your network interface and select properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and hit properties.
Now press advanced and select DNS tab and check if there's anything under Append these DNS suffixes, if there is you can remove them there.

Whenever your internet is working properly, does it still say the DNS is from your previous ISP?

Topology?

Your domain name should populate from whatever you're pulling from their DHCP server.
Sometimes the strings don't exactly match.

You could try manually setting your DNS server to 8.8.8.8.
If you have a router the easiest solution would be to change the DNS there, that way your clients on LAN will automatically pull this when acquiring an IP.

I assume you have tried the easiest method (unplugging modem, router, and connected pc's)? I figured it would be best to double check before we send you deep into your networks depths

Log into your router and make sure you set your WAN connection to DHCP and it should pick up the DNS settings from your ISP as well.
Otherwise, I would manually configure it to use the 4.2.2.2 DNS server if you ask me.
