Switching cases (Technical difficulty/URGENT!) - Page 6

Alright, here is the new deal. I tested my powersupply. It works. Fans connected directly to it turn on. Power goes through the motherboard because a light at the top of the case is always on when my power supply is idling on. No light on my motherboard is on though. I can't get the power supply to turn on when it is plugged into the mother board. I've taken out the cmos battery and put it back in and nothing happened. I tried clearing the cmos using the jumper. I'll try reseating everything again, but I doubt it'll do anything. Any other ideas?

I dunno if it has been brought up already, but are you certain that you have installed the standoffs in the correct holes for your motherboard form factor? I missing standoff is no biggie, but an incorrectly installed standoff can cause a short.

Also, if all the hardware functioned properly prior to the swap, I would remove all the hardware from the case and hook it all up outside of an enclosure just to eliminate several variables.

I feel like a noob now lol. I am though. Because I realized that I was trying to plud the power into the matching color because thats how I thought it worked. My power switch still doesn't work though, I've tried it every which way and my pc won't turn on. The HDD light on the top is the one that comes on when I put the connector in the right place. Shorting the power connector doesn't seem to work for me.

I would pull the hardware and hook it all up outside of the case just to make sure something did not get damaged somewhere in the process thus far.

take your heatsink and cpu, make sure the back plate of the heatsink isn't shorting out the mobo (the little platic sheet thing is supposed to stay on). If that is the case try putting a piece of paper in between the mobo and the heatsink backplate

I SHORTED IT AND IT TURNED ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY! its a break through! All I had plugged in was the processor and the graphics card though, this is probably why it didn't stay on

Does the graphics card require power from the power supply? Is there an empty connector on the card?
Also, make sure the card is seated properly.

its a GTX260 so it does require power from the psu, I plugged it into a seperate power supply and it won't start up. I'll try reseating the card again.

EDIT: I reseated the card and nothing happened.
