H50 vs. Archon vs. ZT-10D - Page 2

Exactly. I have both the Nh-d14 and SA running in i7 930 and 950. I have swapped back and forth 3 times now to do my own comparison.

The Silver Arrow is 1-3 degrees better in stock and overclock. My conclusion is just like the 15 other professional reviews out there. Silver Arrow is a few degrees better.

My i7 950 runs 4.4Ghz with HT on 24/7. I never saw those temps that Tom on Overclock3D got. Yes he had a 980 chip, but said at 4.4ghz the Nh-14 was at 90 degrees and the SA was shut down at 100 degrees.

I love both coolers. They perform virtually the same, you won't notice the difference. However, you will notice that the Silver Arrow is much quieter. Those TY-140 fans are awesome!

The Thermalright Archon with the limited reviews is drawing a lot of attention. Single tower, single TY-140 fan, and it performs as wells as the SA and Nh-d14. Jury is still out this more reviews come in.

Thanks so much for all of the replies!

So from what you guys have said, I am going to rule the D14 and ZT-10D out. I honestly don't have enough room for the D14 since I have a side panel fan as well as tall RAM. I simply have never heard of ZEROtherm which makes me nervous to buy it as well.

With the Archon, I'm not sure if it is worth the extra investment. The cheapest I can find one for is $90 Shipped and I have already paid $35 for AP-15's which means I'm in $125 for it in which I could have gotten an XSPC 240 WC Kit. It is also extremely tall at 170mm. My case's limit is 180 and, as I said, with a side fan I don't think it is possible. I'm sure with the nice Push/Pull Config that I will be setting up, the H50 should perform comparably. With all things considered, it is still appearing to be the top choice among these 4.

Two others that I am curious about are the Spire Thermax Eclipse II and Prolimatech Megahalems. Any thoughts on how these two would compare to the four mentioned above? Or if there are any more that I have missed which are on par with these? Thanks!

H50 even double shrouded in push/pull with AP-15s will still be around 10C hotter than an XSPC kit. H50 simply cannot compare to a custom or semi-custom (kit) loop. On a dollar per *C basis, the XSPC kits are an incredible buy.

I doubt the H50 with AP15s would compare to an NH-D14 or Silver Arrow

I have never heard of the Spire but the Megahalems is pretty good. A better option would be the Thermalright Venomous X which is similar in size to the Mega but a couple degrees better.

Of course not. That wasn't my point. I was saying that for nearly $130, I can get an XSPC Kit that would perform far better than the Archon as well which would make its purchase illogical. I bought my H50 and AP-15's for $90 shipped which was an excellent deal. I strayed away from the Custom Watercooling because I have no experience with it and it's much riskier. With the H50, should anything happen such as a leak to damage my system, they cover it in full and will replace anything damaged. If a waterloop leaks, I'm screwed.

If it's anything for comparison, here's some H70 temps from my rig, running at a little over stock i950 clock speed at the moment.

And the Archon is a few degrees better than the VenX.

Get the Archon. It's freakin' beastly. My load temps are about 65C (average of all cores, 25 runs of IBT), with high 40's to 50 as game temps. !!!

I'm at 4Ghz, btw. I thought I mentioned that. Guess not.

At $55 the VenX is more cost efficient, and the OP already has 2 AP-15 fans. And he wasn't asking about the Archon. He was asking about those two coolers or any other ones he hadn't mentioned.

I wasn't certain by what you meant by "comparably".

I sold my H50 after getting my x6 and seeing load temps of 50-55C on the CPU socket with only a mild OC of 3.6gHz and 1.4vCore. Same overclock now, and my CPU is only 37C on full load.

If a water loop leaks you have only yourself to blame.

So how is the user responsible if they leak test for 24 hours and 6 weeks later the video cards water block leaks?
