Installing cpu and cooler.

Thread Starter
So tomorow im going to be installing my cpu /cooler for the first time.

I know im not allowed to have static (i will put a cable into the powerpoint to ground myself), but how should i apply the AS5 i bought with the AMD 1090T stock cooler, a dot in the middle? spread with my finger? e.t.c.
If you can find/make a guide on the whole process it would be great and VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! rep of course for help

Mind you, they put too much paste on that vid! You need a bit less. In theory. I always put more (as much as they do) and spread it myself I use the tip of the whatever-container-has-my-paste and spread it equally on the surface of the CPU to get a thin *thin* very thin layer. That's all you need and has always worked for me

Theres some blackk stuff attached to the bottom of my heatsink, do i get rid of it?
i like to use the dot in the middle method. its a lot easier then it seems. and make sure both surfaces on the cpu and cooler are clean. wipe it with a non lint cloth

Ahhh i know what a lint free cloth is now, does it matter if its dirty (well not dirty, just not 100% clean) does tissue paper work?

Clean with the purest rubbing alcohol you can find. Use cotton pads (like the ones women use for taking off nail polish) (!Don't use nail polish remover!). Use a dot of thermal paste in the dead center of the CPU about twice the size of the steel part on the tip of a bic pen.

If you put too much don't panic and keep q-tips handy to clean off any excess. the Idea being you want to keep oil (from your hands) and air out from between the heatsink and the CPU.
