Intel I7-950 how good is it for temps/stock cooling

Ok, so in a few days i should be buying my new ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard. To accompany it I have found the new intel i7-950 for a cheap price of $328 AUD. I have been contemplating on buying an aftermarket cooler. I have had a stock intel cooler on my Q8200 for the past 2 years and I guess its been average. I would just like it to run cool and efficiently. What are the temps like for an i7-950? I know generally q8200's are a bit warmer than most cpus i think my idles in the high 40's low 50's and load would probably be 70ish i'd say. Just a quick heads up. I'm just not sure what heatsink for my cpu i should go for. I don't like the intel ones to much but its a lot easier with the thermal grease all pre-installed etc and ready to go straight into the motherboard.

The issue is, is i have a thermaltake v9 case which is a mid tower and can possibly limit my space for a cpu cooler. so any suggestions? Thanks guys.

I know this sounds kind of noob. But i'm not here to benchmark and to overclock. I know the sites based on overclocking but it's a good general knowlege form and if need be its nice to have the support if i do so. But to be honest. with turboboost technology my cpu is amping up to 3.33ghz on load. a whole 1.00ghz faster then my original cpu. A flippin' nice upgrade for gaming and stuff

And yeah i dont want to overclock in case of damaging the chip and reducing life on the chip. Being a powerful chip it will be fine.

I was stock for about a day and I orderd an aftermarket cooler. It idle'd around 50c with stock, now i'm at 27c so you can see how different it is.

Running H70 and getting fairly decent temps.

Hope that helps.

Gotta love how everybody gets 950 these days. It's the new Q9550.

Props Intel for great price cut.

I know, it's crazy. Cheaper than the i7 920/930 nowadays.

It's a steal.

Well you can imagine how much my gaming will increase with this new cpu i can't wait to play some bad company 2 on the new rig ;D

It's also one of the best chips for the price you can get these days. Definetely destroys any AMD chips out there, guaranteed to hit 4.0, HT... What else one can ask for?

See the only problem that I have with that is that im limited with stock. I buy from a very cheap computer retailer MSY. If you have heard of them?

www.msy.com.au

http://msy.com.au/default.jsp?category=140 is the page with the cpu coolers and other various fans.

I know their site is a little dodgy looking. It was a lot worse but being such a cheap store they dont have to pay much upkeep etc and keep stuff simple so they really have some cheap computer parts.

This my 3.6 overclock with stock voltages.

Right now i have 2x50CFM silent fans attached to my Ven-X and Thermalright Chill Factor III TIM applied. Temps will be much lower once i get the Gelic GC Extreme TIM and 2x 100CFM Scythe SlipStreams.

Don't be afraid of OCing the chip- if anything use it as an opportunity to learn more about it. As you'll see from the forums there are a pretty standard set of adjustments that are VERY easy to make with the X58 chipset. Not too many people care if their chip lasts 3 years or 5 years... Maybe we just bump you up to 3.5? Maybe 3.6? Man, it's SOOOOooo easy to do. The testing programs are getting better and better and if you're just wanting to game... it'll give you an advantage for sure.

Wait until your aftermarket cooler arrives- and don't just use the paste that comes with the aftermarket either... take a look at some AS5 (lower end), OCZ Freeze, MX-2 (or 3?), or my personal favourite IC7 Diamond!

Good luck!
