is the MSI-DKA790GX-Platinum any good? - Page 2

Hm, if the TDP on the 9750 is based purely on voltage scaling then you'd be passing 125W, but that may not always be the case since it may be the specific revision/process node that it goes through for certain TDP's. With a $110 budget you could get a very good AM2+ board. Actually even at the $61 budget of the open-box 790XT-G45, I'm sure someone would be willing to let go an MA770-UD3 or an MA790X-UD4P for that price range.

i hate to shoot down what you say but there is no way i am ever getting an open box product the main reason is this

* Return for refund within: 60 days
* Return for replacement within: non-replaceable

the next one is open box are usually crap ones people return

really? the psu calculator said with my overclock and extra voltage i am at 300 watts for CPU alone not sure how accurate that is but it cant be too far off i don't imagine, i really like the look of the MA790X-UD4P but i heard their support is crap now

I think you will be very disappointed if you invest ~$100 will the hope of a 200 Mhz gain.
That is a performance increase that you will absolutely not notice.

You are better off buying a Phenom II.

i can't if i buy new cpu and mobo totally fails i will be without a computer for a year or more and thats not true even with a 120MHz overclock my gta 4 framerate goes from 32 fps to 42 so i figure a 600Mhz overclock will keep me steady 60 with shadows off

this.

the phenom I's were really bad ocers and i highly doubt that you ll bring that thing over 3 ghz, my friends 9850 hits the wall of stability at 2.8 ghz, anything further would not be stable enough to call it a good oc as others said, get a phenom II and u ll be much happier then investing in a board.

Eh, PSU calculators exaggerate sometimes; they're meant to tell you what PSU you should get, not how much wattage your parts actually consumes.
However I'll have to second the others here. If you update the BIOS on the M4A77D it should support Phenom II CPUs.

my asus board is acting up random reboots and bios hangs, and sometimes it wont detect anything till i clear the cmos it does it at stock clocks too.

if i get new cpu and mobo dies then guess what no more pc. i am not getting new mobo just to overclock that is just an added bonus im hoping for the main reason is this mob is dieing
