The set I bought in September of last year had the power rocker; I got it replaced under warranty September of this year, and the new set doesn't have the rocker. Even if it did, the satellites don't turn on without that switch; he wouldn't be able to hear anything.

Make sure the cable that plugs into the sub is properly seated, along with the red/black cables for the satellites. If they are, then get it exchanged; probably just a bad one.

Tried all this, I may have just got a faulty sub I got these as a gift I don't know if they kept the receipt or not.

Could very well be a faulty sub if you've double checked all the connections. Hopefully your "present giver" has the receipt (which should not be a problem is they bought it online).

Well that certainly sucks. It might even be the control pod. My last set purchased at the end of September this year had volume knob issues. It would max out the right channel every once in a while. I replaced it a few days ago with a new set free of charge at Best Buy and it's working perfectly fine. You do need a receipt for the warranty exchange though.
