Budget Gaming Boxing Day Build from NCIX

Gentlemen,

Here is the budget deal that I ordered yesterday from NCIX. They had some pretty sweet deals:

Attachment 186640

To XD 1771, I tried to follow your recommendation as much as possible. I am not sure about the MB selection. It does not appear 8+2 and the heat sinks are not very big. Will I be able to push the X6 1055T a little bit. Even if I can't, the CPU is probably good enough as is.

All gaming will be done in 720p on my 37'' Viewsonic HDTV, so I should be able to push the AA and details quite a bit. Will I be able to get in-game 5.1 dolby digital with that Asus Card?

Regards,

GrandMax

Here is a shot of the gaming setup. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard from the coach.

I can't wait to receive the boxes...

I know, NCIX's boxing days are ridiculous I'm a bit disappointed this year in some places (where are mah $2 heatsinks!?) but I still find it quite ridiculous. I myself am getting a nice, cheap 2TB HDD for my HTPC to take the load off Hexagonal's Caviar Black 1TB.

There are a few things I'd complain about with that build, particularly the combo of the x6/motherboard. MSI skimps out on mosfets; the 890GXM-G65 has a similar heatsinked 4+1 power phase that has caught fire, twice already, for OCN members running overclocked x6 CPUs before. I would stay away from overclocking on this board just to be safe.

There are different variants of the Asus Xonar, the best being the DX PCI-E and the DS PCI I think; I don't think the DG is as good but it should be able to do surround with the proper system.

I have the same concern with the MB. It is the weak link of the PC. Plus there is no USB 3.0 or Sata3 which are now standard on other 100$ MB. The rebate was supposedly over 100$ for this MB + 1055t deal but the regular price were far from the actual prices (from Newegg or Tigerdirect).

What else do you think is not good in that build? The memory being only 1333 MHz. Please let me know so I can learn from it.

I like the fact I can go for crossfire with another 6870 to boost performance if needed. The price of the Corsair 550 PSU was ridiculously low at 39.99$.

Merry Xmas!
