360 or 480 radiator

Thread Starter
So I got the rest of my parts for my new system today from santa. I'll be throwing it all together tonight when I get home. The next step will be setting up my first wc loop. I have all the blocks, pump, res, etc picked out except for the radiator. It will be cooling an i7 950 @ 4.0 ghz and a slightly oc'd gtx470 and possibly nb and sb if I can find blocks I like for my board (asus sabertooth x58). There is also a chance that I could throw in a second gpu down the road, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. My question for everyone is this, would it be worth modding the top of my 700d to fit a 480 radiator as opposed to getting a 360 now and adding another rad to the bottom chamber if I add more blocks down the road. I'm probably going to be using some uv green gelid wing 12 gamer fans in pull for the radiator with a front panel speed controller. Suggestions/advice?

Modding the stop is miles easier than modding the bottom. Plus one bigger radiator is cheaper than two smaller ones. I'd go with the 480.

This.

I toyed with the idea of a 360, then a smaller rad as time passed, but it's much cheaper and simpler just to mod it. I've not got mine yet, but it seems simple enough. Look very nice when done too.

If you have a look at my large thread in the WC section (with a very similar title to yours, I actually though this was my thread for a second tongue.gif), you'll see a lot of info with some numbers and links that may assist you. smile.gif

I actually sat and read your entire thread this morning while I was at my parents house. After reading, I've pretty much decided that I'm modding the top for a 480.

What radiator would you recommend? I'm planning on using gelid wing 12 gamer fans, which run at 15k rpm set to pull. I need a good fan controller too. Probably a lamptron.

a) I'm pretty sure you meant 1.5k, as 15k is over 2x as fast as the fastest PC fan I've ever seen.

b) I would get the XSPC RX480. It's simply the best radiator for those fan speeds. It's also priced decently so it's a win-win.

Lol yes charlie, that is what I meant. And that's actually the radiator I was leaning toward anyway

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm in the states. I'm just going to go with the rx480

You might want to consider a 280mm or 420mm rad too.
