evga gtx 580 not working

okay so im in the middle of my first ever build and have everything put together and it seems to work fine except for one thing- i have my monitor plugged into my graphics card (gtx 580) but the only picture on the screen is a white box in the top left corner cycling between digital, analog, and hdmi. it does the same thing even when its not plugged into the graphics card. what is going on??? the fan is coming on on the card but it doesnt seem to be working? please help!!

If you are using the R3E as your sig says, you should have a 4 led list when the computer starts, which indicate which test its currently running (motherboard, cpu, mems, HDDs), and see if it got stuck one one of them.

Check all power connectors are connected.

Make sure all DIMs are connected.

Make sure the 580's fan is spinning ok.

Make sure that the little speaker for the beeps is connected to the motherboard and see if it gives any indication, or actually beeps to say that the computer started and past the bios.

If all looks ok but just no picture (even in bios start), try using another graphics card, even an old useless one, to at least see if you get any picture.

If you do, might be RMA the card, if nothing shows anything, might be a different thing.

Check and see if the pci-E lane switch is in the "ON" position at the top right of the mobo beside the dimm slots.
