Android Tablets and misc (lots of questions) - Page 2

I was in the market for a tablet earlier this week. After browising around at the android selection I ended up buying a used iPad. This is coming from someone who wouldn't trade their evo 4g for anything in the world. The current lineup of android tablets are weak, which is sad beause I really wanted one. The only half way decant one is the galaxy tab and they don't make a wifi only version of it (yet). So far I gotta say I am enjoying the iPad. Add my evo in as a hotspot and it works great. My only complaint is that it's a bit heavy.

Haha, I was going to switch to android by buying an evo but instead ended up buying the iphone 4. Looking for an android tab now XD, complete opposites.

I received the Archos 70 Internet Tablet for Christmas. It is probably the best sub $300 tablet you can get other than the Archos 101 Internet Tablet. Capacitive touch screen, ARM Cortex 1ghz processor, HDMI out, USB (full usb on the 101) Android 2.2. Only has Wifi however which keeps the price point down.

The viewing angle leaves more to be desired. And there are a couple plastic parts that make it feel a little cheap. But you get what you pay for at sub $300.

The difference though between the higher price point tablets and the Archos didn't make sense for the price difference for me, especially since I didn't care if it had 3G (which also means who cares if it didn't have GPS built in) But for some that is a necessity. Also with the Archos 101 and Archos 70 they have good company support as well as a community base that is very knowledgable and helpful @ archosfans.com as well as a section on XDA forums.

I would recommend the Archos 70/101 for anybody looking for an android tablet below the price range of $500 as it has very good hardware, very good support, and is priced lower than a majority of tablets using the same/close to the same hardware.

LG Star: Potentially coming to T-Mobile in the US, but a release date before March-April is unlikely. Looks to be amazing. Tegra2

Motorola Etna/Olympus: Releasing to Verizon and ATT, respectively. Released likely by February for the Olympus and early March for the Etna. These phones have Tegra2

HTC Thunderbolt: Has been teased to high heaven, though virtually nothing is known about it outside of the fact that it has a kickstand, a unibody design, and a 4.3" screen. Confirmed Verizon LTE. Chipset is unconfirmed at the time of writing, but likely 1GHz 2nd Generation snapdragon.

Motorola Xoom: Tablet that seemed to have been teased by Andy Rubin at D:. Will be using Gingerbread.

All of this is FUD and speculation as of yet. Wait a week from today and all your questions will be answered at CES.
