GTX470 SLI Low Usage (In all games) - Page 2

I'm 99% sure you're experiencing a CPU bottleneck. I started my own thread awhile back when I was experiencing the same issues with GTX 470 SLI.

I upgraded from a 955 (@ 3.8 GHz) to an i7-920 (@ 4.0 GHz) and saw a huge increase in GPU usage. I know it's hard to believe but clock for clock the i7 architecture is just faster in most games....

There are some benches in my thread showing the difference when I moved to an i7 build. Have a look:

Forget what I said about Black Ops, haha, I had F@H running by mistake so it pushed the GPUs to 100% anyway.

But yes, I have BC2, same issue.

perhaps a problem with the sli hack?

Non i5/i7 CPUs have trouble maxing out even a single Fermi based card.

It's been an ongoing issue since NVIDIA released Fermi.

Your best bet would be to try this driver set:

You'll need a modified .inf in order to install.

try mafia 2
both my cards run at about 100% to get about 90 fps on the bench
And I see about 100-150 fps during gameplay

Its not the CPU. PII is just as strong as Core in games. First problem is that your MB doesnt not support SLI to begin with. Using hacked drivers is asking for trouble. Also the platform itself is what causes DUAL GPU or even 3 GPUs not to scale. P55/X58 scale a lot better then any AMD platform so you cant do anything about it. Basically AMD right now scales ~ same as Core 2 generation P45/X48.

AMD cpus lack the single threaded performance needed for Fermi

I really think it is the CPU. I had crossfire 5850s and 470s in an SLI configuration (with the SLI hack) and they both suffered the same symptoms with my Phenom II x4 955. Most games would yield between 40-80% GPU usage (some would reach 99% on both GPUs). I tried two different AMD mobos without a change in GPU usage. I then upgraded to an i7 and I now see ~99% usage on both GPUs in just about every game I play.

Here's a Crysis bench with the Phenom II @ 3.8 GHz:

Same bench with an i7 @ 3.8 GHz:

265.90 Drivers helped, but didn't solve the issue completely. I played Crysis during this time.

AMD makes a great chipset, arguably equal or better than Intel. They just don't have the cpu. Core and Phenom are not equals in anything.
