Radiator question: 120 vs 140 mm

Thread Starter
simple question - I'm adding another GPU to my loop, and with two 470s and an i7 I figured I'd like a little more rad power than a single 360, so I'm adding either a 120 or 140mm rad

the question - will the extra surface area on the 140 provide significantly more cooling power, worth the extra $30-40 cost of the radiator? or am I better off sticking with the conventional 120mm radiator, since it probably has better fans available for it?

PS looking for low FPI, low noise radiators

You won't see much difference, maybe 10-15% better compared to a 120. Whether the price is worth it is up to u. I would get the 140, but I'm the kind of person that runs 12x120 rad

If you can fit a 140, I'd get the 140.

I really don't think a single 360 is going to get you very impressive temps with a pair of GTX 470s and an i7 in the same loop.. My setup has a 360+120 just for the 470s. Not done building it yet though.

I know a lot of people who would recommend getting at least a 240 rad for each GTX 470. The 470s overclock ridiculously well..

Radiators are limited much more by airflow than by their size. While a larger radiator does allow for a larger fan Martin has found that 140mm fans are only slightly better than 120s in terms of CFM/dB ratio. I would just stick with a 120mm radiator and spend some of the extra money on a nice 120mm fan such as a gentle typhoon.
