Phenom II 905e/MSI 870-G45 Savings Worth It?

I've been desperately yearning for an upgrade to my CPU and mobo forever.
I'm content with everything else (maybe a little more memory), but I've really been looking for a nice sale on a Phenom II 955 or 965 for quite a few months now.

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...s&promoid=1253

Would this be recommended?
I mean the savings are HUGE, and if this was specifically what I was looking for, well then damn it would be one the best deals I've ever had.

I don't know CPUs so well (atm), and I'm mighty confused about the original price of the 905e ($200+) in the combo compared it's 955/965 ($140-190) quad brothers? Higher price yet lower performance (I assume)?

As one could see I'm not exactly and enthusiast, just looking to play medium games like GTA4, COD, etc.

If you are planning to oc it. You will need VRM cooler and a good cpu cooler.

And if not, just how much of an improvement would it be?
I don't want to regret it not even 6 months from now, even though I'm saving like 40% price.

2 tiers under the 955/965... goes for $200, and the 1-tier higher Athlon II 640 I can get for $100. O_O
Is the power saving that worth it?

This is a major improvement over for SIG RIG. On GTA4 major improvement. On COD, etc good improvement. You also may think of buying a better video card too.

I would try to get a combo with an Athlon II 640. It will be better.

Oh well I certainly wish I could buy a better video card. But it's only been half a year, and my parents would be seriously ticked off that I spent $100+ just to replace it again so soon.

Glad to hear it will be a major improvement, but looking at my previous double post...
Well this is all seriously confusing to a newbie like myself. -_-
Less performance, Power saving = $100 more than something that has higher performance...

I guess so.

Quite a bit cheaper, and apparently it's only a tier under it's big brothers in performance? Though the 4x smaller L2 cache throws me off.
