My Sucessful 965BE 4.0GHz

Thread Starter
I think I've finally gotten my overclock stable, and I'm thrilled. I'll include all of my numbers/validations/screens at the end, but I have a few questions.

Are there advantages/disadvantages to overclocking my bus speed instead of the multiplier? I've heard it's possibly to get these RAM timings@1600 if I overclock the bus speed to 250 and pull the multiplier way down. I haven't really seen any great or in depth explanations about this, especially for my chipset, so any knowledge would be lovely.

Is 24HR Prime95 blend and 2HR IntelBurnTest stable beyond a doubt? Previously I've failed Prime95@3hr,6hr,8hr,12hr while I stepped my voltages up, and haven't failed any 2HR maximum burn IntelBurnTest yet.

Are any of my voltages going to melt my board? I've checked from multiple software sources to monitor them, and I've listed to highest I've seen the board push them to (not just the setting, but the actual voltage). I don't have a multimeter, but I'd buy one if that's the advice given to keep from frying my board if multiple software sources can't be trusted (as I've read is the case).

Is this typical for my board/cpu/ram, or did I get lucky with good hardware? I've seen very mixed reviews about the 965BE, but my results so far have me very pleased. I saw 51GFlop on IBT at one point. It's not the i7's 63GFlop, but great performance for a 100$ price difference.

This is my first time OC'ing anything in my life, and I'd appreciate any feedback or input as to whether I've done well, or can do better in some subtle areas I haven't messed around with. I haven't touched any of the ram's drive strengths, or tried to run them on 1T, but I'm open to suggestions on this as well. I'm going to start another thread, possibly, after I do my HW on the Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD 6850, to see how far I can push that on its stock cooler before I need to invest in a GPU cooler.

Thanks guys, and I'm going to dedicate my downcycles to folding in tribute to all of the posters on here who have helped me by helping others. You guys are wonderful, and at some point I'm going to write up a guide for how I OC'd my rig step-by-step, because a lot of noobs like myself find these things very intimidating =D

Missing pics coming in a soon edit.

Your board overvolts that much on the cpu?

Your board wont catch on fire unless you have a MSI 790 chipset with a highly overclocked X6.

Your temps looks good but I wouldnt get them any higher than the 55 you are already at.

Good work tho.
