no slowdowns at all..slowdowns is from user error and poor maintenance
You have no proof to back up this statement until you reformat
Slowdowns are gradual over time.

Yes, but I actually took the time to do whatever needed to be done to correct the problems.
Whatever works for you.
Personally, it's easier to live off of a file server and not mind if the PC begins to become a sprawling metropolis of data. In the end it takes less time to spend 20-25 mins and wipe every few months than to meticulously keep on top of everything.

Diskmax is top notch.

EDIT: Plus, if you're using CCleaner, CCEnhancer is a must as well.

It is kinda like somebody living in a house that smells like something, they don't notice it because they are so use to it.
So you can't really say it isn't slower, because you have nothing to compare it to.

I think we reformat so often because we are here at OCN. I find it very hard to believe that the average adult who buys their computers from HP reformat if at all.

Thank you for the suggestion to CCEnhancer and Diskmax btw. +rep

I don't format unless it is absolutely required. I'm still running the same 7 install on 3 rigs since 7 was in RC.

That is exactly why whenever you work on a Branded computer used by a normal person, it is always balls slow. I have never gotten a computer from somebody to work on and it was fast or quick in anyway shape or form.

I used to do it every 2 months on my desktop - and every 6 months on my laptop, I don't format my server's main OS drive because it's a pain in the ass to set it all back up again, ect, so I don't ... But recently since I started working at the University as an IT guy, my motivation for reformatting has gone down to about a bit fat, zero. Because I do it every damn day and it's annoying now.

i used to reformat like there was no tomorrow, but about 3 years ago i just gave up, and i got a SSD now, so i just empty out my programs folder if it gets cloggy

I only reformat when it is necessary, When branded computer have problems, it best just to reformat. People who custom built have a sense of whats going on, so reformatting is done seldom.
