GTX460 vs 5850 vs 6870

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm planning on going out tommorow for a new video card (my christmas gift!), and I've been doing some research for a while, still with no conclusion unfortunately.

Pretty much my budget is 150-225ish (250 is absolute max, I would like to stay below that).

From what I understand, the best cards around that price range are:
GTX460 1GB (would probably go for a EVGA ~180$)
XFX6870 1GB (~210$)
XFX5850 1GB Black (~170$)

Is the 6870 worth the extra 30$ for a performance increase? [Keep in mind; Canadian]

Making the jump from a 8800GT so either way I'll be seeing a huge performance increase!

Are there any other cards you would recommend instead?

Thanks for the help and happy holidays =)

Nick

what of the 470?

all those cards are just a bit faster than one another though, so if one has a bundle / warranty that you like then go for it.

oh, and nVidia has CUDA and physX, and ATI has eyefinity and MLAA.

You can find some numbers among 460,5850 and 6870 from here. Then you factor in the price. Hope this helps.

hey just read this
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/revie...locking-study/
as u will see stock for stock both hd6850/6870 are faster than gtx 460 but once all these cards are overclocked to their max the gtx 460 takes the cake so for that budget get the gtx 460 hawk from msi and overclock the hell out of it then it will beat both hd 6870/6850 evn when they are overclocked...
for instance my card can reach 855 core without any increase in volts and is stable so the overclocking ability of the hawk is the highest among all gtx 460 variants......

5850, way cooler than the overheating 460 and better or equal to performance of the 6870, but about $30 - $50 cheaper

It may be cooler, but you are paying $34-$40 more for the cooler that the hawk has, the 5850 would be cooler than the hawk if you put a huge cooler on it also.

Depends really. Will you cfx? 6870 hands down. When cfx it competes with (yes no joke) the 580 in sli o__o. I own the gtx 460 sli with 825/1660 oc. Dude I vote for the 6870. Or the 560 when it comes out.
