GTX460 vs 5850 vs 6870 - Page 3

Tessellation performance in Heaven is pretty irrelevant with mid level and single gpu's.

You know it requires multiple highend cards to get "playable" frames in Heaven.
And with the exception of LP2 the 6870 is the clear winner in all DX11 games tested.

NiK_0_0 I would take the 6870 over the 460, but the 460 over the 5850.
yes u are right there at higher res the hd6870 defeats the gtx 460 but at modest resolution the overclocked gtx 460 is head to head and maybe sometimes higher than hd6870...

I'd go for the 5850

The amount of tesselation used in games right now is nothing the 5850 can't handle.
By the time games will use Heaven-like levels of tesselation, the GTX460 would have faded into antiquity.

If you want most for you money get the 6870.
Its significantly better than the 5850... PLUS tessellation support for future games.

According to techpowerup, even an overclocked 460 won't match a 6870. (Imagine overclocking the 6870)

Proof? Check the numbers:

I highly suggest the XFX 6870..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150506
Nice price of 240... but after the mail in rebate, it'll bring you down to 220 free ship.
Oh and did I mention lifetime warranty?

I bought a 6950 and so far it is an excellent video card. The best I have ever owned. Quiet, cool, I haven't tried to overclock it yet so I can't say how well it is going to clock.

Great feature set and games play really smooth with a higher minimum FPS than any other card I have ever used. The image quality is also spectacular, again best ever, and the new morphological AA is pretty cool and works on games that don't support traditional AA.

I don't know if the 6870 give a similar experience, but so far I am recommending the HD6000 series.

Of course out of the cards listed it will also be the fastest.

6850 would be a great choice also. better in tesselations and scales like crazy on crossfire.

HD 5850 will be faster if it has voltage control then HD 6870. Forget GTX 460. You could also wait for GTX 560.

6870's can't overclock for ****. all I could do was a 150 core clock overclock.(unlike 6850's which overclocks great and reaches overclocked 6870 clocks!) I'm not to complain though. crossfire scaling was so epic I could not believe it lol. it beats a 5870CF and gtx 470 SLI(some may disagree)

But the 5850 is. Stock clocks are 725Mhz, with numerous people achieving clocks in the high 900's to over 1Ghz.

HWbot's average OC's
http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/radeon_hd_5850

http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/...gtx_460_256bit

It should also be noted that the 5850 is the cheapest card out of the three the OP is considering.
