GTX460 vs 5850 vs 6870 - Page 4

I had a 5870CF before (sorta a side grade but I got money out of it and performance so win/win) trust me playing metro and crysis on 6870CF was not even close with the 5870 twins.

Thread Starter
Monitor is actually now a dual setup: 27" 1920x1080 LG and a 22" Samsung, in the near future I will be upgrading to a 30" Dell 2560 (if everything goes well!), but I will be able to afford another card at that point.

Judging by the comments on this thread.... everybody likes everything!
It is a very even field and thats why it is hard to choose!

The 6870 doing that well in crossfire sounds good (I will be upgrading again in May of next year most likely, so the ability to get a really good crossfire out of this upgrade sounds pretty solid), I will have to look up some stats on that.

So reconsidering the fact that I'm running a dual monitor setup with 1920x1080 and 1650x1080 on the other, is there a more clear winner?

ghost_z sold me on the GTX460, which I am fully aware is a very solid card, but the 6870 is sounding pretty solid too. However now I'm seeing some charts that put the 5850 infront of the 6870, yet the 5850 is still cheaper!

I mostly play SC2, but I dont really want to run that any higher, I am just looking to keep up with todays games, my 8800GT is starting to lag on things such as CoD Black Ops, even as a keep the settings low.

the bottom line is all 3 cards are great. I believe he's coming from a 8800gt so whatever cards he buys will be a BIG boost from his previous card. I'm excited for him. I imagine the wow's and omg epic face's on him when he plays games with his new card

5850 is still a fantastic deal, but bigger is better.

6870
pros
-----
good tesselation
good dx11 performance
cf scaling pretty solid

cons
-----
high price
no physx

gtx 460
pros
-----
good vfm
highly overclockable
good tesselation
sli scaling good

cons
-----
none except gtx 560 just around the corner(but it might be costly)

hd 5850---biggest con cf scaling not good, tesselation worse, older chipset

pros---maybe cheap(not confirmed this personally)

hd 6850 overall good but gtx 460 beats it for similar pricing....
so that sums it all.....
overclocking ability quite limited

LOL

No...Just no...

I say, get the Hawk GTX 460. If you can get it to 1GHZ, it will be right around a GTX 480 more or less.

a few cherry picked graphs to give you an idea how they perform on crossfire

dirt2

bad company2

crysis warhead

a few more graphs I've saved up

far cry 2

metro 2033

3dmark vantage

6850CF is still the best price/performance imo

edit:

btw the cheaper 6850CF destroys a gtx 460SLI.

PhysX is no con or pro. Name a big upcoming game that is using PhysX.
