but those cards are generally hot. I believe review sites always have their fan speed at "auto" when they do reviews. I'm pretty sure that at 65% the fan run loud

mines does too hehe. auto fan profiles much suck. custom profiles will always be the best hehe.

I did a quick google and I was surprised about this

they run hotter and consumes more power then gtx 470??? this doesn't make any sense.

Not that much less man. But its more efficient. gf100 was a power-munching mother fer.

65% fan speed is barely audible over my 1200RPM 120mm case fans.
As for the power consumption, the review sample may have had a poor VID.
Mine is 0.975v

EDIT: Here's anand's take on different VID's for GF100

Not really. The OP's original choices were thoroughly discussed. Now a potential alternative has been presented and is being discussed.

That said, I personally can't find an EVGA GTX465 cheaper than an EVGA GTX460 1GB in Canada right now. (Since the OP has expressed preference for EVGA)

Thread Starter
Not that far off topic, no problem in seeing two sides go head to head, gives me the best view on things!!!

Judging by the sound of things, the 6870 would be the best bet for futureproofing (especially since there is a sale on down to $210), but the 460 does put up a fight, and the 560 is coming out soon.

My 8800GT has lasted me a full 2.5 years so far when I got it new for 100$, so this has admittedly set the bar a little high when it comes to graphics card expectations. Since my 8800GT is still running SC2, NFS Hot Pursuit and Call of Duty Black Ops on low enough graphics to look decent while keeping an OK framerate, I think I will have to run this poor card into the ground and do a final sprint until May.

Thanks for all your help everyone, without mention of the GTX560 I would probably have hopped on this 6870 right away, but I think my best course of action is to wait until May and then get a nice new monitor, gfx, ssd, and an i7 =)

(however a temporary 120$ gtx460 768 mb is surely tempting xD)

Thanks for all the input you guys, I'll be forever waiting for the next generation of cards xD Happy holidays, I will close this thread in a few hours probably.
