I'm one of the few who perceive little benefit in Steam. I have used it before on my notebook and can see why people like it, however it is not for me.

Whilst games are cheaper while sales are on, I like to purchase games when I want to play them and don't like to wait... every game that I've bought in the last year I have paid considerably less for by buying from online retailers compared to the Steam prices at the time of purchase.

I guess I'm quite old fashioned - I just like to sit down and play a single player game with no logging into a service, no chat or "friends" list and I really couldn't care less about leaderbords etc. I also quite like box-art and how they all look lined up on the shelf!

I do however see it's value as a platform for helping indie developers and the ability to backup your game folder is a good function, but it doesn't do enough to convince me.

Good poll. And I'm a gog.com user as well. I'd love to see Steam shift some of their content to a similar DRM free package.

biggest advantage of Steam for me: keeping games updated.

disadvantage: the fear of loosing access to my content in the event of some freak mishap with the company.

Everyone on here does. Why the hell not? Cheaper (usually), easier, and more convenient.

I don't have that fear. Because if they really did lock you out and not give you access to everything you paid for then that is an easy lawsuit.

It won't happen.

Have you tried Steam? Also, can you list what has turned you off of Steam?

I can't say enough good things about steam, but at the same time, having one digital distributor dominate the market makes me nervous. Some other company like d2d or Impulse needs to dump serious cash into making a competitive delivery app with community features to get truly competitive.

In fact, if Steam continues to grow the way it has in the last few years, don't be surprised if anti trust suits start coming up. Too many eggs are in the Steam basket (but I still <3 it)

Love me some steamy hot Steamage. Got every Rockstar game ever made for PC (including EFLC and GTA IV) for $40 bucks. Today they have all three Flatout games for a total of $3.75. Thanks, Steam!

Some require you to install steam anyway.

I've been using steam since the WON servers went down.
