A few questions regarding windows 7 ultimate

Thread Starter
I just got done building a rig this week, and I'm having numerous, minor problems with the PC. not the hardware part, but small things. Asked a few of my friends, they have no clue, so I figure ask people that know these things best. These are all annoying problems, so I'm sure you guys will know how to fix these.

1 - When I first turn on my computer and it goes to the desktop after I type in my password, I always get a pop up -Msg- Your version is the newest version. It is so annoying. its a minor problem, but it just doesnt feel good having that thing pop up everytime I turn on my pc. How do I make it stop popping up? I'm sure some people have experienced this problem.

2 - I downloaded a game online, and it saved in a file I cannot find. I checked the download location, by re-downloading and overwriting the game. The location was as follows : My computer - Users - Chad - Appsdata - Local. I go into my computer, I see a users file, so i double click, I see Chad, I double click, and from there on, I dont see a file called appsdata. This is a new formatted PC, so there should be nothing in users, but when i right click on Chad it says 11.5 gigs, meaning the 11 gig game I downloaded is obviously here somewhere. I can't find it. There is no such file as Appsdata. I tried searching for the files named Appsdata and Local and AION (the game name) but nothing comes up. Was trying to find the location of the file for hours yesterday, no luck.

3 - This isnt an OS question, but I figure I can ask here. When i double click firefox, I get a pop up with a long wall of text saying something like "security compatibility something something something" why is this?

1. Try typing MSCONFIG and hit Enter in your start menu and see if anything is strange under the start-up tab. Something may be trying to start when you first boot up. That would be my first action.

2. Go to your Control Panel. Under Appearance, go to Folder Options.... check the box that says 'Show Hidden Files/Folders'... then try finding that folder again after you click Apply/Save

3. Lulz... a screenshot would help. Maybe your AntiVirus settings are too strict. Or a firewall problem.

Yes, that's very probable. Look for an updater of some sort. Most applications have an updater which occasionally checks for updates for it. Maybe one of your updaters boots with windows by accident. Kobalt already explained this, but I figured that the step could do with a little more explanation. wave2.gif

oh, i remember another problem that i had. this is the most annoying one, im sure its nothing major, but i cant fix it. i tried everything i know.

i installed the korean language pack. i can write it fine and websites display the font fine, but when the system is installing korean programs, it shows up as weird cases and question marks. also, when i installed a korean program onto desktop, the desktop icon has the korean font in weird characters. i tried changing it in regional language options, but i cant get it to work properly... if you guys dont know exactly what im talking about, will provide screenshots when i get home...........

Cant help you with the problems posted in #5. But try going to this folder: C:\Users\Alexander\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Delete any updater apps installed there. Maybe that'll do the trick.

OK, after 12 hours of grueling work, I am finally home. Mind me, I am a total complete computer noob. I am still learning a lot, so please forgive me lol. I do not know how to resize pics, so they are in 1920... sorry for the inconvenience.

Problem1.jpg\
this is the first problem. when i first boot windows, this super annoying pop up comes up.

Problem10.jpg
i took OCN's advice and disabled startup. everything, infact. I still have the annoying pop up when it starts. HELP, i want to get rid of this thing and not have it pop up!

Problem3.jpg
this is a problem i have with korean font. notice the font on the internet and stuff work fine. but when the system has to read the korean font, its in weird characters and question marks. the first 2 problem pics of the desktop also shows one program on the desktop, which is in korean, shows up as weird characters. how do i get it so it reads korean fine even in the system?

Problem.jpg
Problem2.jpg
Problem4.jpg
this is the last problem i have.

notice in the first pic, it shows where the download location is.
second pic, i am at the burn folder, i dont see a next folder like the destination says.
last pic is a pic of the folder RIGHT before the burn folder, in properties. notice in properties, how it says 11 gigs? this is a new formatted PC, which means the file should NOT be at 11 gigs, but obviously the 11 gig game file i downloaded is somewhere in there. but i cannot find it.

PLEASE HELP! these small problems are driving a computer noob nuts!!

Those installshield entries in your msconfig are sketch. Do you know what they are? Expand the "command" column to see their location.

I'm betting those are causing your latest version woes.

1. Try to turn off the Windows Update
2. Folder Options -> View -> Show hidden files, folders, and drives or use WinRAR to browse there (WinRAR shows all files including hidden ones)
