Need Serious Advice: Intel 160gb or V2 240 same price.

Thread Starter
I have to purchase an SSD for my bosses company laptop. Both the Intel X25 G2 160GB and the OCZ Vertex2 240GB are on sale. Canadians dollars, the Intel is $299 and the OCZ is $349.

This will be going inside a ThinkPad T60. I am heavily considering going with the Intel drive since my Boss values reliability over Size. OCZ has had tons of issues with there SSD's bricking/Dieing and so many firmware updates, issues with sleep and hibernation mode, Laptop compatibility issues, most of which Intel has avoided. Since Laptop's unique chipset implementation usually hold back most SSD's peak performance I doubt that the OCZ will show any real world performance benefit.

I noticed when testing my 120GB Vertex 2 in his laptop that the MS AHCI driver causes no issues while the Intel ICH7 storage drivers do( cause 0X0000007B errors randomly when booting into windows.

My concern here is I feel OCZ does not have the same quality Control hat INTEL has demonstrated in the last 2 years with there SSD line. I was wondering what your guys take on my situation is? Do you think Intel's Price Premium is justified?

Which drive do you think is the better buy?

First off, it seems like both of those are really good deals. I do agree that the Intel is far more reliable than the OCZ and for a business situation that is what counts. It seems that you have done your due diligence with is pretty rare on these forums so I applaud you for that.

As far as the deal goes, the OCZ definitely wins this battle, but the best deal is not what is important in this case.

In this certain circumstance I would get the Intel. It won't be as fast as the Vertex 2, but it will probably outlast it and it seems that it would give you a better piece of mind.

Although the Intel may give you better peace of mind, I would go for the OCZ Vertex2.

The problems with the Vertex drives were mostly with the firmware, after it just came out. SandForce has been out for quite some time now, and most kinks are ironed out. My Force120, (same controller, same drive) has been working great ever since I bought it, no hitches whatsoever.

I'm for the OCZ Vertex2 - you have more GB and the problems are rare now, I think they've worked things out.
