Quite possibly. The M2 is something of an accidental meme on Geekhack due to how unreliable they are.

That said, the capacitors die when they're not used regularly. If you use yours on a regular basis, your one should do fine. It's when you get one off eBay that you want to be careful.

The M2 is a mixed bag. On one hand, it snaps open, which allows easy access to the springs and membrane, which makes it easy to repair if needed. On the other hand, the construction quality is quite flimsy, and they have no backplate.
